School News
Last week at Four Winds we finished our group reading/discussion of Mark Twain’s Tom Sawyer, and students finished their first research paper of the year. This coming week, students will be starting their Tom Sawyer essays, starting to read Lyddie by Katherine Patterson, getting ready for our Emily Dickinson Museum field trip on Friday, and writing their first lab reports of the school year!
Walk-a-thon Thank you so much to everyone who made the Walk-a-thon possible! The event wouldn’t have been possible without a tremendous amount of work from the Parents’ Organization, the donations and baked goods from families, our wonderful community support system, and the kids’ coming up with the idea in the first place. Everyone should feel extremely proud of themselves and our community. Everything is still being tallied as money continues to comes in, but we predict that we’ve raised about $1,500 to donate to the Mashpee Wampanoag. Pledges and donations are due by Friday, November 1st. Thank you!

Field Trip, 11/8: Parent Emily Alling to lead another language evolution workshop with us this year! Emily is a librarian and linguist and has worked with our students in the past about the evolution of language over the millennia. This year, partly inspired by our discussion of racist and sexist language in Tom Sawyer, Emily will be zooming in and discussing “taboo” language over the last few centuries as well as how slang has developed over the same time period. We’re very excited for this upcoming workshop!
