School News

This week the afternoon classes were a blend between science and humanities class as we discussed population growth and standard of living. Next week in humanities we’ll discuss female factory worker’s roles in the improvement of worker’s rights and living conditions before starting to study 19th century European Immigration next biweekly. On Thursday, students watched this interesting video about engineering and origami in Alethea‘s biweekly math activity, and on Friday, parent and linguist Emily Alling came in to lead a workshop on linguistics!

Walk-a-thon Update

We’ll be mailing our whopping $2822 check to the Mashpee Wampanoag tomorrow afternoon! Everyone there is very excited about and grateful for our donation and even wrote about us in their monthly newsletter (text quoted from our article in The Recorder, which was written before we knew the full donation amount). Hopefully everyone in our community is feeling proud of this nice gesture we were able to pull off, especially Marissa and the other members of the Parents’ Organization!

Upcoming Dates and Events

Open House TOMORROW (Tuesday, November 12th) from 6 to 7:30pm: Open houses are also a great way for prospective students to check out the school and meet our teachers and communities. They are also a fun opportunity for current students to socialize with each other outside of school hours, and for alumni students to reconnect with old friends and former teachers! We provide pizza from Turners Falls Pizza House. Current families are encouraged to bring other dinner foods, snacks, drinks, or desserts. Additionally, we’ll have calendars with photography by Rachel Roy and haikus by our students available for sale, as well as Four Winds merchandise by Silver Screen Design! To learn more, check out our event on Facebook. We hope to see you all there!

PFLAG Workshop, Friday, November 22nd at 1:30pm: Tracy from Boston PFLAG will be our visitor for “field trip Friday” on the Friday before November break. She’ll be leading a workshop for students and interested family members! Families are invited and encouraged, but not required, to attend.

Native American Thanks Giving, Saturday, November 23rd at 11am at the Old Indian Meeting House in Mashpee. Click to learn more.
