School News

The last week of the last biweekly and afternoon classes was both productive and fun! Our science field trip on Thursday was a particular highlight: Students made a scale model of the solar system in which the sun’s diameter was 1 meter. Each student made a planet out of clay with an accompanying fact sheet. We then walked, biked, and ran over 4 kilometers on the Canalside Rail Trail in Turners Falls to place the planets where they belong. Unfortunately we only have pictures through Saturn, but just imagine the rest of the planets to be very small and very far away, and you’ll get the idea. 🙂

Fun Week Schedule

Tuesday, 5/28: All day field trip to Plimouth Plantation

To wrap up our Humanities curriculum for the year, we’ll be spending the day at Plimouth Plantation and the Wampanoag Homesite in Plymouth, MA!

Wednesday, 5/29: Junior Achievement and swimming

As always, we’ll start the day with a poem followed by creative writing. Then we’ll do fun activities with Meghan from Junior Achievement of Western Massachusetts. We’ll spend the afternoon picnicking, playing, and swimming at the Green River!

Thursday, 5/30: Finish up loose ends, then fun!

We’ll finish up some lose ends around the school including our last Poem and Creative Writing of the year, filling out report cards, finishing a letter we’re writing to our representative and senator about the Massachusetts State Flag (learn more at changethemassflag.com), cleaning the school and then setting up for graduation! We’ll spend the afternoon getting ice cream and curly fries from the nearby Wagon Wheel and then hanging out at the playground at Unity Park!

Friday, 5/31: Graduation

Students and families should arrive at 5:55pm (dressed nicely) for the 6pm graduation ceremony, then enjoy the reception from ~6:30 to 8pm. Parents of graduates traditionally provide a sheet cake. As always, we’ll provide pizza from Turners Falls Pizza House, and others are encouraged to bring food, (non-alcoholic) drinks, or desserts to share. Family and friends are welcome guests.
