School News

Last week was “Halloweek” (school spirit week) at Four Winds School. Check out photos from some of our festivities and activities below! In both science and humanities class we’ve been discussion population growth and standard of living. This week students will start a project comparing standards of living around the world. We’re excited about this cross-curricular collaboration!

Calendars: The 2020 calendar orders are in! Earlier this fall students collaborated with local photographer, Rachel Roy, to create a calendar for the upcoming year. Each month includes a haiku written by a Four Winds Student, in addition to Rachel’s beautiful nature photos. Calendars, and all of the other new Four Winds Swag, will be available for sale at the upcoming Open House on Tuesday, November 12th, and we can now accept credit cards!

Upcoming Dates and Events

“Field Trip,” November 8th, 1:30-3:15: Linguistics Workshop Emily Alling at Four Winds.

Monday, November 11th: No School (Veteran’s Day)

Tuesday, November 12th, 6-7:30pm: Open House. Coming to an open house is a great way for prospective families to see the building and meet the teachers, other families, and students. Open houses are also a great way for current students to socialize with each other outside of school hours, and for alumni students to reconnect with old friends and former teachers! We provide pizza from Turners Falls Pizza House. Current families are encouraged to bring other dinner foods, snacks, drinks, or desserts (please respond to Sarah’s email if you haven’t yet). We hope to see you all there!
PFLAG Workshop, Friday 11/22/19: Tracy from Boston PFLAG will be our visitor for “field trip Friday” on the Friday before November break. She’ll be leading a workshop for students and interested family members! Families are invited and encouraged, but not required, to attend. The schedule for the afternoon will be as follows:
  • 1:30-2:30 presentation for students and their families
  • 2:30-3:15 parents stay with the Tracy in the quiet room for a Q and A session while students go on to project time in the main classroom. Students will be able to ask the teachers and discuss topics with each other while working on projects.
  • 3:15-3:30 clean up and pick up time. Parents may also take their students at any time between the end of the presentation at 2:30 and the end of the school day.
